On 07.09.22, the International Commission of Human Rights Experts on Ethiopia expressed its concern about the renewal of hostilities between the Government of Ethiopia and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front.
Furthermore, the Commission welcomed the decision of the UN Security Council to discuss the situation in Ethiopia as a matter of urgency. It further called upon the Council to take action under the Charter needed to ensure the protection of civilians and prevent escalation that could further destabilize the region.
In press statement, Ethiopian government slammed Commission’s blatant call for action against Ethiopia and termed it as “reckless behaviour” and that “works of the Commission are politically motivated”.
