The Ethiopian federal government said in June that the African Union should facilitate peace talks. But Tigray leaders were highly critical to African-Union led efforts to bring peace to Ethiopia. They rather wanted the West take direct or indirect part in the mediation process while the government insisted the idea of “African solutions for African problems.”

TPLF said on Sunday 11.09.22 that they are ready for a ceasefire and would accept an African Union-led peace process. Tigray has set up a negotiation team that is ready to be deployed “without delay”, the statement said. “We are ready to abide by an immediate and mutually agreed cessation of hostilities,” the Tigrayan forces said in a statement. Getachew Reda and Gen. Tsadkan Gebretinsae are selected to represent TPLF in AU-led peace negotiations.
